Ingredients:
- 6 large eggs at room temperature
- 160g / 1 heaping cup all-purpose flour
- 120g / 2 1/2 cup sugar
- Salt
- 600ml / 2 1/2 cups whole milk at room temperature
- 12 tbsp butter
- Powdered sugar
Let’s create something tasty:
- Mix the flour, sugar, and pinch of salt in a bowl, then add the milk. Blend until a smooth batter forms.
- Melt 4 tbsp butter in a small saucepan, then add to the batter and stir. Crack the eggs into a small dish, and beat very gently. Fold them into batter mixture carefully.
- Preheat oven to 165C / approx. 325F. Melt 2 tbsp butter in a ovenproof frying pan, then add the batter and cook over medium heat until the Kaiserschmarn becomes crisp around the edges.
- Put the frying pan on the middle rack of the oven and bake for about 10-15 minutes. Take the frying pan out of the oven, and shred the Kaiserschmarn into larger pieces using a spatula. Place the frying pan onto the stove again, add the rest of the butter, and sauté the shredded pieces for a further 2-3 minutes at medium heat. Dust the Kaiserschmarn with powered sugar, and serve immediately.
Our recommendation as a side dish would be freshly made apple sauce.
